Korakot Aromdee is a Thai designer who blends his design flair with local crafts to create income for local communities. After graduating with a Master’s Degree in Applied Arts from the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Korakot Aromdee realized in the power of design and used his knowledge to uplift the quality of life of people in his communities by combining simple craft techniques with the higher level of designs inspired by the surroundings in the local area. It was since then the Seesuk bamboo, known for its flexibility and durability, has been reinvented with local kite-making techniques to create eye-catching sculptures and products.
His works have earned him many accolades like the DFA Special Award from Design for Asia Award, Hong Kong Design Centre, Designer of the year and Best Designer of the Year from Silpakorn University, and First Runner-Up Award, Honorable Mention Award in Asian Furniture Fair, to name a few. His works are now present in leading hotels, resorts and restaurants across the region, from Malaysia, Cambodia to Myanmar. He was also chosen for the Silpathorn award for design in 2017.
